Week 2 – Fake News and an App that can Detect It

With AI technologies advancing, and the increasingly accessible Chat GPT program, fake news is on the rise alongside the misuse of AI. An example of this is using Drake and The Weeknds’ voices to create a song that went viral on social media due to how realistic it sounded. However, the issue arose when fans of both artists believed the song to be real, causing a nightmare of legal issues, copyright laws being implemented that were not made prior to AI being introduced and the wrong parties receiving credit for said work.

Fake news due to the misuse of AI is a problem, that needs to be resolved as quickly and conveniently as it is to absorb and spread the misinformation. The proposal is an app, where you can scan the text/headline in question, or upload a file directly from your mobile device. It will be scanned by the AI technology in-app, then scour the web with related keywords, narrowing down the filtration until accurate sources are found. The information will be checked and a result will come up if the sources deem the original headline to be true or false.

A defect of this may be that due to lack of information, headlines are deemed false until more information is recorded. In this case, the user will be notified as such.
